Cernunnos is the ancient Celtic horned god of nature, fertility and the underworld. He holds the snake symbolising this connection with the depths. He is also associated with being a protector of animals.
The earliest depictions of Cernunnos are from rock carvings in northern Italy dating around 400 BCE. There are no surviving texts about Cernunnos, so our understanding of him is built on archaeological artifacts and Roman inscriptions.
